West Sacramento City Council

Stronger Together!

Dear Friends and Community,

When I think of why I want to serve as your city councilmember, I think of the people and the places that make our neighborhoods a community. I imagine walking the trails and picking veggies at the community garden, holding scout meetings at Summerfield Park, and cooling off at the spray park with my family. My goal is to make sure we grow and invest in our city while also preserving what makes District 3 so special.

In the year I’ve served as your city councilmember, we’ve made great strides but we still have much to do for our families and neighborhoods.

I proudly supported the implementation of Project Homekey to help people in need get housing and services. I also supported the West Gateway Place phase II development of affordable housing consisting of 60 affordable units because addressing homelessness begins with available and accessible affordable housing. These are steps in the right direction, but there’s much more to do.

Parks are the cornerstones of our community. That’s why I approved shade structures for multiple parks, new play equipment at Patwin Park, and multi-million dollar grants and funding for Heritage Oaks Park, Westacre Park, and Bryte Park.

I advocated for funding to address issues between development in the Southport industrial park and residential neighborhoods, and am working to address the annual problem of inconsistent water levels in Bridgeway Lakes, an issue for recreation and species habitat.

As our community matures, we must invest more to fix our roads like the soon-to-begin pothole fixes to Southport Parkway followed by a complete streets project running from Industrial to Lake Washington, and down Southport Parkway. This transformation will complement the future Enterprise Crossing, which will provide another connection between Southport and the freeway.

Working with our police department, I supported efforts to increase public safety by improving transparency and restructuring response to calls that require a focus on mental health.

All this is only possible through fiscal responsibility, ensuring a balanced budget, and fairly compensating those who work with the city.

West Sacramento has been my heart and home for 16 years. Whether as a Yolo First 5 Commissioner, Girl Scout Leader, youth coach, Chair of the West Sacramento Aging Commission, and as your City Councilmember, serving our city continues to be a privilege and a joy.

There’s so much we can do together. I appreciate your consideration when you vote.
Sincerely,

Dawnté Early
